Applications are invited for a purely temporary post of Junior Research Fellow in a project funded by DST entitled "Genomic approach to develop high density single nucleotide polymorphism markers in Bhut jolokia (Capsicum chinense) for mapping and identification of genes for economically important traits"

Qualification required: M.Sc in any branch of biological science/ Bioinformatics with prior experience in NGS data analysis of transcriptome /gene expression, marker genotyping (SSRs/SNP), gene mapping, Protein extraction and analysis in 2D Gel electrophoresis. The candidate should be CSIR/UGC/NET qualified; however candidates graduated with subjects in which no NET exam is conducted by UGC are exempted.

Fellowship amount As per DST rules

Tenure : The position is purely temporary, renewable after every six months and will continue until July, 2017 (the end of project) based on satisfactory performance.

Jawaharlal Nehru University has been granted funds by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to initiate an Inter-School programme in JNU to strengthen training and research called "DBT-Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advanced Research and education" with the broad project area entitled "From Molecules to Systems: Exploring biological space using chemical and synthetic biology" cutting across Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.
Applications are invited for Four (04) purely temporary post of Junior Research Fellow (JRF). This is a unique opportunity to work in the interface of Chemistry and Biology with a group of faculties having diverse range of experience and expertise. The project is upto March 2017, but the appointments shall be made initially for a period of one year, renewable every year depending on the performance:

A. Project Sub-Title: "Structure, function, and dynamics of bio molecules and Molecular engineering"


Junior Research Fellow (02)

Qualifications: M.Sc. in Chemistry (with major in Physical Chemistry) or in Physics. The project requirement is in the fields of single molecule and ultrafast spectroscopy to study drug DNA and lipid-ligand interactions.
The candidates must have experience of using time-resolved fluorescence spectrometers such as time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) and fluorescence up-conversion (UPC), and/or single molecular fluorescence techniques such as fluorescence correlation spectrometer (FCS) and single molecule-FRET (sm-FRET). The candidates should also have hands-on experience of handling biomolecules like DNA, proteins and lipids. Instrumentation and computer programming skills are also required for these positions.

B. Project Sub-Title: Analyzing enzymes of the SDR super familyJunior Research Fellow (01 Post)


Qualifications: M.Sc. in Life sciences or related fields. Candidates should have practical experience in molecular/cell biology technique and cell culture. Working knowledge of protein purification/ confocal microscopy and Flow Cytometry will be desirable.

C. Project Sub-Title: Understanding Cell-cycle regulationJunior Research Fellow (01 Post)


Qualifications: M.Sc. in Life sciences or related fields. Candidates should have practical experience in molecular/cell biology technique and cell culture. Working knowledge of protein purification/ confocal microscopy and Flow Cytometry will be desirable.
