1. POSITIONS VACANT:  Lab Technicians (LT); Multiple vacancies, based at different laboratories being strengthened by FIND India.

2. ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
The Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND), is a respected, not-for-profit foundation, recognized by the Swiss government as an “other international organization.”

Headquartered in Geneva and represented in India through a Liaison Office at Delhi, FIND facilitates the development and implementation of diagnostic tools for poverty-ridden diseases. The foundation is presently engaged in the development of new diagnostic techniques for TB, Malaria and Sleeping Sickness (HAT), across the world and specifically for MDR-TB, in India.
FIND has progressed diagnostic approaches that have been proven in principle and transformed them into effective products for identifying TB in partnership with academia, public and private research institutes and industry.
FIND recently received a grant from The Global Fund (TGF) Round 9 as a sub-recipient of the Central Tuberculosis Division (CTD), for strengthening selected laboratories engaged in the detection of MDR-TB in India, with Human Resources and their Payroll Management. A total of 43 laboratories spread over 26 States/ Union Territories are to be strengthened in a phased manner as per the schedule agreed with TGF and CTD, comprising 27 laboratories in Year 1, 12 laboratories in Year 2 and 4 laboratories in Year 3.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
The LT will report administratively, on a day-to-day basis to the Director and Head of the concerned TB Lab and shall functionally be under the direct supervision of the TB Lab-in-Charge.
The LT will primarily assist the Lab- in-Charge in the implementation of WHO approved newer TB diagnostics, including diagnosis of drug resistance.
Key Responsibilities:
(1) Performance of LPA and LC tests on patient specimens at the lab, in a timely manner;
(2) Managing clinical and laboratory aspects of the lab and ensuring collection, recording and reporting of clean, quality, data;
(3) Acquiring expertise in approved newer diagnostics tests such as LPA, LC and RS;
(4) Implementing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for TB laboratories, including SOPs for specific aspects of LPA, LC and RS and specifications for equipment, infection control, etc, to ensure Good Laboratory Practices (GLP);
(5) Providing support to the Lab-in-Charge for all laboratory operations including regular MIS functioning, maintenance of all lab equipments, logistics of various lab consumables, etc.;
(6) Conducting day to day lab activities connected with the newer TB diagnostics, ensuring quality control;
(7) Assisting the lab in-charge in providing monthly / quarterly and annual reports in the prescribed formats;
(8) Urgently reporting all adverse events in laboratory functioning to the Lab in-Charge and FIND India Technical Team;
(9) Liaising and facilitating the FIND India Technical Team on all technical matters relating to laboratory functioning, in consultation with the Lab-in-Charge;
(10) Undertaking any other job assigned by state authorities and the FIND India technical team, as per project need.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications:
Applicant must meet the following qualification requirements:
(1) Bachelor Degree in Science with a specialization in Microbiology/ Biotechnology or higher qualification; OR
(2) Diploma in Medical Lab Technology.
Experience:
(1) Applicants with Diploma in Medical Lab Technology must possess a minimum of three years work experience in TB Culture and DST or Rapid TB diagnostics;
(2) Candidates with experience in Rapid TB diagnostics shall be given preference.
Skills and Attitude:
(1) Good oral and written communication skills;
(2) Strong team orientation;
(3) Ability to work independently, with minimum hand holding and supervision;
(4) Energetic, resilient and passionate;
(5) Professional, mature and confident.

5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position on a cost to organization (CTO) basis is Rs.1.80 lacs per annum. Please note that gross compensation is fully taxable.
(Note: Candidates shall be working on the payroll of SAMS, a leading HR Agency for the health and development sectors in India).

6. NATURE OF APPOINTMENT:
The selected candidate shall be initially offered till  July 31, 2016 consultancy contract, renewable annually, based on satisfactory performance.

Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) requires for its Farm & state -of the -art Laboratory situated at the campus of SVP University of Agriculture & Technology, Modipuram, U.P. :

(i)                Two Lab Analysts for Chemical Testing Lab to work with GC MS/LC MS MS/ICP MS. Candidates with MSc Chemistry, preferably with Analytical Chemistry with one year experience of working with these equipments may apply.

(ii)              Two Scientific Officer for Seed Production at Demonstration and Training Farm. Candidates with MSc Agriculture (Plant Breeding/ Genetics/Agronomy/Plant Protection) with relevant experience of 1-2 years may apply.

Number of Vacancies

Number of vacancies in both the categories is 2 each. However, the final number of candidates selected may vary at the time of the selection process based on change in the requirement.

Period of Engagement

These positions are for engagement on contract basis. Intially the contract will be for a period of one year. Contract would be extended for a period 3 years on the basis of performance and conduct.

Remuneration

Principal investigator Post // Women's Re-orientation Programme (Bio-CARe) // for M.Tech (biotech. / life science).




Call for Applications for Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-orientation Programme (Bio-CARe) for Women Scientists 2015-16


In an attempt to enhance the participation of Women Scientists in Biotechnology Research, the Department of Biotechnology launched a Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-orientation Programme (Bio-CARe) for women Scientists. The programme is mainly for Career Development of employed/ unemployed women Scientists upto 55 years of age for whom it is the first extramural research grant. The purpose is to build capacities for women Scientists employed fulltime in Universities and small research laboratories or unemployed women Scientists after a career break so as to help them undertake independent R&D projects. The scheme is open for all areas of Life Science / biology (including agriculture, veterinary science and medicine).

There are two categories under which support is provided for a period of 3 years. There is a Research Grant Opportunity (RGO), under which a research grant is provided. Under this category, the women Scientists who are unemployed will be provided a monthly emoluments ranging from Rs. 50,000/- to 60,000/- p.m. The employed women Scientists in addition to salary will get an amount of Rs.10,000/- p.m as an incentive. A research grant of upto Rs. 60.00 lakhs is provided. Under the Early Career Scientists (ECS) category, scientists having experience less than two years post PhD are eligible to apply for research grant of upto Rs.
40.00 lakhs. The unemployed women scientists will be provided a monthly emolument of Rs. 50,000/- . The employed women Scientists in addition to salary will get an amount of Rs.10,000/- p.m as an incentive. Details of the two categories of the scheme are as below:


Eligibility Criteria:

 
(i) M.D/M. Tech /Ph. D/Equivalent degree in any branch of Life Sciences.
(ii) Women Scientists who are employed or unemployed or are desirous of coming back after a break.
(iii) Women Scientists for whom it is the first grant. (Women Scientist who have already availed any grant as a Principal Investigator from any Government Funding Agency including WOS -Women Scientists Scheme (A&B) and Fast Track Scheme of DST are not eligible to apply).
(iv) Women Scientists upto 55 years of age



Fellowship/Stipend:

(i) For unemployed women Scientists there would be a provision for fellowship amount as lumpsum in the following 3 slabs under the Research Grant Opportunity (RGO). The slabs would be decided based on post Ph.D experience as mentioned below:
     (a) Grade I Rs.50, 000/- (more than 2 years research/industrial experience)
     (b) Grade II Rs.55,000/-( more than 5 years research/industrial experience)
     (c) Grade III Rs.60,000/-( more than 10 years research/industrial experience)


Candidates having less than 2years experience will be supported under Early
Career Scientists (ECS) category and get Rs.50, 000/- .


 ** The candidates are requested to mention number of years of experience post PhD and will have to provide proof of years of experience. 

**If a selected candidate is availing a Post-Doctoral or Contractual fellowship, she will have to resign from the same before accepting the project under Bio-CARe programme.
 
(ii) For employed grantees an additional amount of Rs. 10,000/- per month would be provided as an incentive. This will be in addition to the salary she is receiving from the parent institute/university.


Project Budget:

 
All research related expenses are to be booked under Equipment, Consumables, Manpower, Contingency, Travel etc. as in other ongoing R&D Schemes of the Department of Biotechnology. The budget is restricted to Rs. 60.00 lakhs for 3 years for RGO and Rs.40.00 lakhs for ECS. This includes manpower to be hired (PA/JRF/SRF/RA for RGO and PA for ECS) in the project. The budget is indicative only. Not mandatory to be funded. Equipment cost should not exceed 30 % of the total cost of the project.


Application Procedure:
 
(i) The eligible applicants should submit the project proposal online through epromis (http://dbtepromis.gov.in) as and when the program is advertised at DBT website ( www.dbtindia.gov.in). The proposal should describe the objectives and work plan through which she intends to achieve the target in the project period in detail. The applicants should ensure to fill up all the fields as all fields are mandatory.


(ii) For employed candidates, minimum one Co-Investigator is mandatory and the proposal should be duly forwarded by Head of the institute/competent authorities. For unemployed candidates, a Mentor is mandatory and a letter from the Mentor Scientist in whose lab she proposes to work and a forwarding letter of support from the Head of the institute/Competent authority should accompany the proposal.
